New Hampshire Abolishes Death Penalty and California Imposes Moratorium
The “Death Penalty Information Center published its 2019 Year End Report, assessing the status of the Death Penalty throughout the country. They found that overall the Death Penalty is eroding as many states have now abolished it and many others are moving in that direction. New Hampshire was the most recent state to abolish the death penalty in May of 2019 bringing the number of states that have abolished the death penalty to 21. The report also notes that the death penalty is very geographically isolated with much of the northeast region having no death penalty at all or in the west coast.
